Vienna Science Studies Laboratory
The Vienna Science Studies Laboratory is a Vienna-based group of multi-disciplinary researchers interested in the diverse topics and issues of science, technology, and medicine studies. Originally an initiative from members of the CEU Science Studies Research Group, the Laboratory’s activities debuted in Budapest in 2017 and continued till 2019, when CEU started to move to Vienna. We are now happy to announce that we re-launch the Lab with our Vienna partners, now that physical meetings can be realized in full delight again.
Format: We meet whenever it fits, but not more often than once a month. The format is very open, but basically we use two options. The reading group format, or the work in progress format. For reading group meetings, invitations are publicly distributes. In the work in progress format either a student or a faculty member presents some of their work in progress and gets feedback from the other participants of the lab. For such meetings, we aim at a small group of people from the local community (5-10 people, who were suggested by the authors and invited by the organizers). Everyone will read the material in advance. The reading group meetings reach out, while the work in progress lab meetings serve as a means to improve our on-going work through friendly critical discussions and, in addition, for early academics to get a sense of what a professional work in progress looks like.
